Salon team’s summer tip – low slung pony tails

// May 1st, 2012 // No Comments » // Our Prices, The Salon, The Team

The hottest style this summer – low slung pony tails – in 4 simple steps.

You’ll need : Hairdryer  /  Mousse  /  Clear Elastics  /  Hairspray  /  Dry Shampoo

Pony tails rarely go out of fashion and the Summer Season shows were no exception: low and looped at Caroline Herrera, a three-part pony at Herve Leger, Gwyneth at the Oscars in Tom Ford with a simple, chic, low pony tail.

Here is a simple way to style your own…
1. Rough Dry some mousse into the hair for texture – we recommend GHD Volumising Foam (£12.95).
2. Lightly spray some dry shampoo onto your hands. Use only your fingers to rake through the style (front to back) to create movement.
3. Gather your hair at the nape of the neck, secure with a snag-free elastic, take a piece of hair from underneath, wrap it round the elastic to hide it, then pin in.
4. Spray some hairspray onto hands and use to manipulate the hair, shape it, leave it looking tousled. Try Fix anti Frizz, L’Oreal Prof (£9.50).

Q: What inspires you most as a hair stylist?

A: Fashion I think is the biggest inspiration for me.  Not just present and future but past too.

Q: Best moments in your life as a hairdresser so far?

A: Working on the X Factor has to be up there with them, also the first time my work was published outside of the UK.

Q: Particular hair styles, types or treatments that you like to work with.

A: I enjoy cutting and colouring curly hair – I like the fact you approach it from a completely different angle – keeps things interesting! The texture is also fantastic to work with, to create both soft and defined shapes.

Q: It’s your fashion shoot. Name your photographer, model, location and theme.

A: Nick Knight would shoot – continuously breaking boundaries. Arizona Muse would model. Her or Charlotte Free – I’m a little bit in love with them both. Place? London. The arches around Southwark SE1 (I lived on Bermondsey Street for two years when I first moved to London seven years ago so the area has a really special place in my heart). I’d theme it around Fashion in the early 90s – I love it and definitely see it influencing today’s trend-setters.

Q: Favourite day-to-day hair products you’d most recommend?

A: I love Kerastase for haircare – I really think nothing rivals it.

Q: Best piece of advice on hair you’ve heard?

A: From a great Japanese hairdresser who was learning English when I was training: “Think of hair as a sculpture. It’s not what you cut. It’s what you leave.” It has stuck with me ever since.

Q: How would your clients describe you?

A: I’d like to think they view me as knowledgeable and approachable – there’s nothing worse than when a client feels uncomfortable with their stylist.

Love Elle magazine’s cover girl hair!

Elle Magazine cover

Love the covergirl look on Alexa Chung for Elle this month. Bang on. Nutty brown, natural, subtle, almost could be her colour. With a beautiful fringe to emphasise her eyes and cheek bones. And then that touch on the ends… a lighter effect. No need to worry about colour showing at the roots. The freehand look is deceptive; it actually involves several different kinds of technique.

Overall, very modern, very fresh. So we love it and we’ve been painting similar portraits with colour for our clients since last year. Some call it balayage, shatush… we think it’s more sunkissed and “Californian”. So just ask for a Californian when you book!!! We’ll Alexa Chung you:)

From £67. Tel 0207 240 9973.

Ghd new product range on sale now

// October 15th, 2011 // No Comments » // Services, The Salon, The Team

Ciao a tutti!

We’ve introduced ghd’s fantastic new range of styling products to the salon (priced from £3.95). And after spending a day with ghd’s own team of experts plus some of our fabulous models, we’re convinced how good they really are for setting and styling hair.

Hedvig, blogged about the results afterwards so we know we’re not alone. We gave her a healthy, tousled look that lasted, ready to wear, for several days without any feel or weight of product.

The products make styling a lot easier. They give excellent “heat protection” so you avoid any damage from straighteners and they don’t make your hair feel “loaded”. Justina (see photo) said her hair was super easy to comb through immediately after the up-do, and was still naturally wavy and light.

It’s not just the results we like; it’s the price as well. Come to us and find out how ghd works for YOU!

Hannah

Ciao a tutti!

WE just couldn’t resist this picture of one of our clients, Hannah.

She already has beautiful hair. We simply chose a colour from the ammonia free INOA range and the result was this; a super rich, glossy, copper tone.

It’s a very vintage look; extremely elegant as well, with a London fashion twist to it.

Love it.
