What inspires you most as a hair stylist?

Making somebody feel amazing, and seeing a change in them that makes their face light up… That gives me a real sense of reward – I think it’s important for people to feel good as well as look good.

Best moments in your life as a hairdresser so far?

Being part of a great team in the L’Oreal Colour Trophy awards. The whole experience of creating an original look (autumn winter 2011), putting together a stunning image based on what you know, products, and personalities.

Particular hair styles, types or treatments that you like to work with?

I love working with colour, going for the sun kissed look (I’m half Mediterranean so I guess that comes naturally to me)!  The main thing is to identify and work with what’s right for my client. Then I’m happy. Products wise, I do love Kerastase shampoos / conditioners.

It’s your fashion shoot. Name your photographer, model, location, and theme.

I’d put Karl Lagerfeld  behind the cameras (love his work with Chanel) and I’d go for the chic filmstar look – think 1920s, 30s, 40s…  with a more contemporary touch. Old fashioned glamour with a twist of Hollywood burlesque. My ideal model would have to be Daphne Groeneveld. And because I’ve always wanted to work in Paris we’d be there for a few days. Probably in winter… not the usual Spring cliche.

How would your clients describe you?

Professional. Always attentive, and always thinking about how they feel.

It is always a real pleasure to meet new customers. Better still when they leave super happy they found us! Actor and former Ennerdale baddie Lyndon Ogbourne came via recommendation (thanks Lisa!) and left an hour later looking VERY camera ready!  I used the hotshotz colour conditioner and went for my usual style… classic with a versatile, edgy twist.  As we like it!

He’s got quite a fan club out there! Which is not surprising. This actor is more than just a great haircut!

Overall, we were thrilled with what you said – with over 80% of you saying you got a better treatment (service, cut, colour, made to feel special) than at any other salon you’d been to. But of course, we wanted to know how we could improve, so that’s what we’ve focussed on here. I hope you feel we’ve listened. And keep those comments coming – without you, we’d be… well, we wouldn’t be here!

25% of you come every six weeks, with half of you come every 3 months, with quite a few of you feeling the pinch and stretching out your visits compared to 2 years ago.

We said: We’ve now introduced special student rates Mon-Wed

You said: You’d like lower prices on colours
We said: We’ve introduced a 10% discount for all of you who LIKE us on Facebook, and we’ll cut your bill by 20% every time you recommend us to someone who books in.

You said: You’d like special offers for being loyal
We said: Sign up to our newsletter for news on exclusive deals, just for our customers. We’ve also negotiated exclusive rates for our customers at the W hotel Spa.

You said: Upstairs can get a bit too cold sometimes.
We said: We’ve got some new heaters!

You said: Downstairs a little dark.
We said: Fair enough.. and we redecorated and installed a couple more spotlights.

You said: Quieter music please!
We said: Understood. Maybe we got carried away at some point! However, even if our DJ skills are basic we do know where the volume dial is, so everybody has been told to be MORE AWARE!

You said: Better reading materials.
We said: Tell us what you’d like to read!

You said: Better communication over the phone.
We said: We have 4 languages in the salon, so that’s a bit of a challenge… but we’ve introduced text reminders for your appointments, and we trialled a new Front of House before Christmas who we thought was fantastic. Let us know what you think.

You said: How about some manicures?
We said: We did try this, but the lady was often twiddling her thumbs… so we’ve got a different solution, through our exclusive offers for you at the spa at the W hotel – at special prices. Just a stone’s throw from the salon

A GOOD CAUSE FOR 2012: In the spirit of Christmas and a happier New Year, if you have any interview-ready clothes for men, dry cleaned or laundered, that you would like to offload to a good cause then read on…

One of our many amazing clients – Maria Lenn – is very involved with the charity Suited & Booted.  (http://tabcentre.com/projects/suited-booted/).

The organisation helps encourage vulnerable / disadvantaged men in the capital back into work through mentoring and presentation. And they need our help so if you have any dry cleaned / laundered clothes for men that you would like to contribute you could always bring them with you to your next appointment and we will ensure they are delivered on to Maria at the charity HQ (TAB centre, Austin Street, E2 7NB).
