Since I advertised the Brazilian Blowdry on the A Board outside, a number of people have come in and asked questions or stood outside and clutched themselves laughing! I suspect the name should be changed… just a hunch ! Hopefully the below is both useful and helpful.
A Brazilian blow dry is a keratin-based straightening treatment that makes curly hair straighter and more easy to manage. It does not guarantee poker straight hair. What it does do is make sure your hair falls straighter – without frizzy strays – is stronger, healthier and more shiny.
In practical terms, the effects last three to four months, reducing the need for regular blow dries. Towel dry it and it should still fall perfectly, and you can still colour your hair if you choose.
Reading several articles on line, the verdicts vary from near ecstasy (Sarah Standing at the Evening Standard) to “recommended” from www.chameleonfridays.com, who wrote; “The reality a month on is that I now have slightly less curly hair which is a bit shinier. This is not bad at all, it means my hair is longer, doesn’t get frizzy as quickly and when I blow dry it properly it lasts a whole week.”
Her website also shows video of hair being given the keratin treatment.
There are concerns after some suppliers introduced formaldehyde into the keratin solution at way over recommended levels. Please be assured, the keratin solution that I order in is certified as entirely natural, with no formaldehyde content whatsoever.
The slight inconvenience for you is that you cannot wash your hair for the first three or four days (exact number dependent on the condition of the hair). When you do wash your hair, you must use a solvent-free shampoo.
Any questions you have, just email and ask. I am going to post a before and after blog soon with comments from a client as she has her first keratin treatment.
As for the sign outside my salon, I think we’ll change the name!
A presto,
Sergio
